Planning and Zoning Recommends Approval of Mount Dora Crossings, Loch Leven Landing

At its meeting on July 16, Mount Dora's Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously voted to recommend that the City Council approve Mount Dora Crossings (the Hofmeister parcel that abuts the CCMD along U.S. Hwy 441 to the south of our entrance) and Loch Leven Landing (the parcel located at the northeast corner of U.S. Hwy 441 and S.R. 44 (old 44b) that will include a new Publix). There was no citizen opposition to either parcel. However, two CCMD residents expressed security concerns related to the back border of the Hofmeister parcel that abuts three lots in Park Forest. The Planning and Zoning Commission said that City code did not provide for a wall in that area and asked the developer to work with the CCMD residents to erect a landscaped buffer that would provide more security than the buffer currently shown on the design plans. The Commission noted that there already exists a 100-ft. buffer at the location in question, including a retention pond.

The next step for both projects is the City Council's first reading of the ordinance approving both projects, probably sometime in August, to be followed by a second and final reading. The City Council will hear from the public at both hearings. We will publish the dates of the hearings.
